I teach at Merrol Hyde Magnet School, an academic magnet school in Sumner County Schools. My teaching responsibilities include Spanish III Honors, Spanish IV Honors, AP Spanish Language and Culture, and AP Psychology. I also coach the high school quiz bowl team, coordinate our participation in the Volunteer State Seal of Biliteracy program, and serve on the school leadership team.
As a language teacher, I am interested in helping my students build proficiency for the real world. I am proud that my students go on to use their Spanish for work, travel, service, and personal enrichment. Since the best way to learn Spanish is to use authentic materials, I use a wide variety of texts, audios, and videos from across the Spanish-speaking world. I am also particularly proud of my work to write and conduct Paideia seminars (a type of Socratic discussion pedagogy) based on literary texts with the discussion entirely in Spanish.
